New Qualification for Electric Guitar Teachers

September 2008

Registry of Guitar Tutors has launched a new range of professional teaching Diplomas for electric guitarists

Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) has just launched a series of three fully accredited specialist Diplomas for electric guitar teachers. RGT Director Tony Skinner says: “Although recognised teaching diplomas for classical guitarists have been available for many years, up until now there have been no equivalent range of specialist qualifications designed specifically for electric guitarists. RGT is very pleased to be able to offer electric guitar teachers the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification.”

EXAM CONTENT
These Diplomas have been designed to reflect the specific skills needed by electric guitar teachers teaching rock and other styles of popular music, and whilst playing ability needs to be sufficient to ably demonstrate musical examples and techniques to students, the focus in these new Diplomas is the ability to ‘teach’ electric guitar.

RECOGNISED QUALIFICATIONS
The Diplomas have been developed by the RGT (the UK’s only specialist guitar education examination body) whose Board of Patrons includes some of the popular music world’s most respected figures including Sir Paul McCartney, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones.
The RGT Diplomas are awarded in conjunction with London College of Music Exams and are accredited by Thames Valley University and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (Ofqual). The Diplomas are also recognised by the DCSF (Dept. of Education and Skills) as a recognised qualification and have been placed on the National Qualifications Framework.
